Some of you know how much I love figure skating. This year’s worlds showed the best and the worst (let’s not even talk about Alissa, whose performance went beyond worst to outright ugly). Hanyu, the 17 year old bronze medalist from Japan, really wowed me with his inspired long program, which I thought was the best of the night. I honestly didn’t expect him to do so well this season. He’s from Tohoku, and his skating rink was destroyed in the last year’s earthquake and tsunami on March 11. So he had to get ice time from whatever rink had an empty slot to prepare for the season.
BTW — those of you interested in winning a Kindle Fire, go here for Zoe Winters’ Easter Egg Hunt. Good luck!

@Amanda Bonilla: Ditto. It’s a shame that the American skaters are doing so poorly now. Alissa C was a total CF, and Ashley Wagner lacks something. I saw that Gracie Gold is being pushed by the federation, though she’s still a jr-level competitor. She’s going to be old enough for Sochi, but I’m not sure if the US can win a medal there. The competition is pretty rough out there.
